White’s Tavern, located on Winecellar Entry and extending to High Street via White’s Garden, White’s Store, and White’s Beer Hall, is one of Belfast’s oldest bars. The original tavern, which dates back to 1630, sits on Winecellar Entry, which takes its name from the many wine and spirit merchants that historically operated there.
In May 2025, the Clover Group submitted a planning application (reference pending) for the refurbishment of the vacant upper floors across three historic buildings, including Washington House (constructed in 1888). The proposal outlines the development of a 36-bedroom boutique hotel above the existing ground-floor bar operations.
