Sailortown to Titanic Quarter swing bridge

Bridge

Sailortown to Titanic Quarter Swing Bridge is a proposed pedestrian and cycle swing bridge across the River Lagan. While the exact bridge alignment is yet to be confirmed, the project is intended to connect Sailortown and Clarendon Dock with the Titanic Quarter, with the most probable alignment running between Barrow Square and Hickson’s Point at Abercorn Basin. The bridge is expected to include a movable span to maintain river navigation and is a key element in completing Belfast’s Harbour Loop active travel corridor.

The project is identified in the Belfast Waterfront Framework as a catalyst for wider regeneration. It aims to reconnect North Belfast and Sailortown to Queen’s Island and the city centre, enhancing access to employment, education, and tourism, while supporting increased footfall and investment along the waterfront.

In March 2025, Belfast City Council secured £600,000 from the Department for Infrastructure to progress the scheme to RIBA Stage 2 (Concept Design). The Council is acting as contracting authority and will lead procurement and project delivery in partnership with Belfast Harbour.

Capital funding for construction has not yet been secured.
