Imperial Buildings, located at 70-74 High Street and 19-21 Skipper Street, is a four-story commercial building, designed by W.J. Gilliland in 1907.
Previously, the ground floor was occupied by Jackson Sports, an outdoor sports and retail shop, which closed its doors in August 2023 after nearly sixty years of operation.
In December 2023, following the shop's closure, a planning application LA04/2023/4579/F was submitted for a change of use at 70 High Street from retail to a coffee shop and bakery. The application was approved in November 2024.
In January 2025, a further planning application LA04/2025/0054/F was submitted, proposing the conversion of the retail space into a restaurant and bakery, including modifications to the ground-floor frontage and additional site improvements.
In June 2025, Trait Coffee opened on the ground floor of Imperial Buildings, occupying the former Jackson Sports unit.
