Howard House, located at 42–48 Howard Street, originally opened in 1925 as the Presbyterian War Memorial Hostel. Designed by Young & Mackenzie, it commemorated Irish Presbyterians who died in World War I and served as residential accommodation for young people arriving in Belfast for work or study.
The building later became known as Howard House, with the ground floor occupied by various retail units, including Flame Restaurant and a pharmacy.
In June 2016, planning application LA04/2016/1277/F was submitted, proposing the conversion of the upper floors into 56 serviced short-stay suites. The hotel opened in 2018 as The Flint.
In September 2024, the ground floor was redeveloped into Amelia Hall, a hospitality venue featuring a pizzeria, cocktail bar, and outdoor terrace area.
