Originally known as the Library House, built in 1886 for Robert Watson & Co. Architectural features of the building, such as a round turret and a castellated parapet on the rear elevation, contribute to its striking appearance.

In 1982, the building was converted into a snooker club, with ten tables, but swiftly expanded to nearly fifty, making it one of the largest snooker clubs in the United Kingdom.

The property was previously occupied by The Bear and Doll, and plans are underway for a full refurbishment of the ground and first floor bar.

In 2020, a planning application was granted for the refurbishment of the existing front bar on both the ground floor and the first floor. The proposed works are aimed to enhance the external facades by reinstating original features, including the Library Street elevation door window and the ground floor full-height bay windows.

In 2021, listed building consent was granted for additional internal works, such as relocating WC blocks away from perimeter walls and replacing some existing windows.
